My name is Alexander Novak and i am Senior software consultant (and trainer) for mostly IBM software products like DB2, Sametime, Notes/Domino or Websphere (and others).
I work at the german company edcom in munich (which is a part of the TimeToAct Group) since the year 2000.
Alexander… Hoping you can answer this for me. I have a customer that I want to upgrade from 7.x and 8.5.x to 9.01. I also want to install Sametime (entry). This is a small customer… 2 servers. I want to cluster the two servers. Server A – mail and traveler. Server B – apps and Sametime. It seems Sametime Entry is gone. Here are my questions. (1) I know Sametime Entry 8.5.x is NOT supported with Domino 9… but, do you know if it will work? (2) If I install Sametime 9 community server on Domino 9, will that act just like Sametime Entry on Domino 8.5? We do not need or want WAS, the proxy server, a SIP server or any of that. We just want prescense awareness and chat within the Notes client (basic client even). I know I can have 1 server running at 9.0 and another at 8.5… I just do not want to.
Thanks,

Sametime 8.5 Entry was renamed to Sametime 9 Limited Use to be used within the Notes licensing. Sametime 9 Limited Use works with Domino 9.0.x server (32 Bit) version and could work as „stanalone“ environment (without WAS), BUT then you dont have any support from IBM.
Here is the supported Sametime Limited Use Installation with Version 9.
1.) IBM Sametime System Console (Websphere) with DB2
2.) IBM Sametime Community Server Limited Use
3.) IBM Sametime Proxy Server (for INotes User only – not mobile)
If you do not want a „supported“ Release just install update your Sametime Server to Domino 9 – and before first domino start – install Sametime 9 limited software.
So you could upgrade in place.
